NV Energy Employees to Honor the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King at Three Square Food Bank
Continuing their annual tradition for the 11th consecutive year, More than 100 NV Energy employees and their family members will spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day volunteering at Three Square Food Bank as part of the national MLK Day of Service.
Last year, NV Energy packed 6,325 bags for the BackPack for Kids program with nutritious, single-serving, ready-to-eat food items for children who might otherwise go without food during weekends and long breaks from school.
In response to the government shutdown, NV Energy will also pack emergency bags of dry, shelf-stable food to help support the families and individuals who have been impacted.
Nationwide, more than 473,000 federal workers are furloughed or working without pay during the shutdown. Statewide, 3,450 Nevadans are not receiving paychecks.
The MLK Day of Service is a national initiative inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who devoted his life’s work to causes of equality and social justice. He taught that through nonviolence and service to one another, we can overcome problems such as hunger, homelessness, prejudice and discrimination.
