Seven months ago, Rick Lax was just creating tricks for other magicians. Now he’s the most popular magician in the world. He’s racked up over 350,000,000 Facebook video views (in the past half-year), and he’s just getting started (Pictured: Rick Lax takes a selfie in the Gamblers General Store playing card aisle).
The lawyer-turned-magician says, “I’m getting recognized most days now. It’s weird; I’m still adjusting.”

Lax says his newfound fame is a mixed bag: “Every day, I get hundreds of private messages from people who say my videos inspire them. Also every day I get people telling me that I should kill myself.”
Ever since Lax hit the ‘Million Fan’ mark on Facebook—that’s more than David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, and David Blaine—he’s been taking stock of his online presence:

“I know I can make good videos that people pass around. I just don’t know what to do with this ability. Up to this point, I’ve just been doing it because I can, but now, I’m looking for the next step.”
In the short term, Lax’s ‘next step’ appears to be ‘infotainment’ videos—videos in which Lax uses his expertise in deception to help people.
“As a magician, I see deception everywhere I look. So I’ve started to make videos that expose the lies around us…and people are loving them. My last two videos were about lies in the fitness industry and lies on social media.”
We don’t know where Lax is going with all this…but we’re excited to find out!
