The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, known as The Heart of the Arts in Southern Nevada, along with The Rogers Foundation, created to transform lives through arts and education, are proud to shine a spotlight on deserving teachers in Clark County School District (CCSD) and will begin accepting nominations Sunday, Oct. 11 (through Jan. 29, 2016) for the first ever The Heart of Education Awards.

Inspired by a program created by George Stevens (creator of the Kennedy Center Honors and The Smith Center PBS special), which has been credited with helping to recruit and retain great teachers in the DC area, The Heart of Education Awards aspires to do the same for education champions in Clark County. Now is the time for the community to step up and help us honor teachers that deserve to be recognized. We want to hear from and about educators with at least three years of experience in the district that go above and beyond the classroom. The process is streamlined – name, contact info, 500-word statement of commitment and 200-word letter of recommendation – and available online at www.TheHeartofEducation.org. A group of community leaders will review submissions, narrowing down the field to approximately 800 finalists. Teachers, this is not the time to be shy – get nominated and tell us your story!
The Heart of Education Awards will culminate CCSD’s Teacher Appreciation Week. The finalists and their guest will enjoy a celebratory evening that will include a red carpet, swag bags and fine entertainment on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at The Smith Center. The festive invitation-only show will be marked by a grand presentation where approximately 20 teachers will each be presented with The Heart of Education Award and $5,000 in appreciation for their outstanding efforts. Each winner’s school will also receive $1,000 to be used for a program selected by the winning teacher.
A great education starts with great educators. It’s time to honor the outstanding teachers that are right here in Clark County. Take a moment and thank a teacher with your nomination, today.
