United Way of Southern Nevada to Distribute $1 Million to Local Families

On Saturday, June 23, United Way of Southern Nevada will, once again, distribute gift cards to more than 2,000 families in need, including military. The carefully selected recipients will be able to use this financial assistance to offset high energy bills and increased food costs associated with the upcoming summer season.

The donation comes from the same Secret Santa who, in December 2011, generously provided an additional $1 million dollars to distribute to families during the holidays. United Way was chosen as the recipient of these gifts totaling $2 million based on their experience and knowledge of the community’s needs and their ability to respond quickly and effectively.

“The basic resources families will be able to obtain with this gift will help them maintain healthy lives. We understand that with children out of school for the summer and the need to use the air conditioner to keep cool, expenses can add up quickly,” said Cass Palmer, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “The generous donation is evidence that by bringing together passionate advocates and needed resources we can make a lasting change in our community.”

Whether individuals donate one dollar or a million dollars, United Way believes that volunteers, advocates and donors form the collective power that can change the face of Southern Nevada. United Way invites the public to visit www.uwsn.org and make a contribution that will help create positive, lasting change in Southern Nevada.
