Silver Nugget Boxing Card Features Former UFC Champ Sept. 30
The September 30th boxing card at the Silver Nugget Casino in N Las Vegas will be unique in that it will headline a former UFC heavyweight champion in his quest to win the heavywight championship as both an MMA combatant and as a boxer.
In 2004 Ricco Rodriquez upset UFC legend Randy Couture for their heavyweight championship. In 2007, he embarked on a pro boxing career, winning his first fight in Houston and then losing a controversial decision on July 8th at the Las Vegas Hilton to even his record at 1-1.
Rodriquez will fight San Francisco heavyweight Yohan Banks in the Silver Nugget bout, which will be held in their newly renovated 14,000 sq ft Events Center, dubbed the Silver Nugget Fight Club.
In the co main event, New Orleans amateur legend Rynell Griffin has turned pro and will put his 2-1 super lightweight record against 0-1-1 Shawn Wate of Paramount, CA.
Boxing Hall of Fame referee Richard Steele will be the promoter of the Silver Nugget bouts, which will take place the last Tuesday of every month. In addition to airing on www.TV4U.Com, the fights will air on www.TVSboxing.net, a fulltime streaming TV fight channel.
“We are looking for exciting competitive fights here that will be great for the Silver Nugget crowd and the TV4U and the TVS TV crowds,” said Steele. “We’ll keep bringing the winners back, but the fights will be competitive, with no walkovers. We’ll give the fans and the TV audience their moneys worth.”
Tickets to the live event at the Silver Nugget Casino, located at the northern tip of the Las Vegas Strip, will be $20 and $30 for ringside. You can call for tickets at 702 216-0070.
