The Las Vegas Raiders have officially moved on from head coach Pete Carroll after a difficult 2025 season, ending his tenure after just one year.

The organization confirmed the decision in a statement, announcing that general manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady will oversee the search for the franchise’s next head coach.

The decision comes after the Raiders finished the season with a 3–14 record, one of the worst campaigns in franchise history. The Raiders endured a 10-game losing streak that effectively derailed any playoff hopes before closing the year with a narrow 14–12 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

When Carroll was hired, expectations were high. The veteran coach, who previously led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl title, spoke openly about his goals. He talked about being accustomed to double-digit win seasons and expressed confidence that the Raiders could quickly turn things around. However, the on-field results never matched those early projections.

In its announcement on Monday, the Raiders thanked Carroll for his leadership and professionalism. The organization also acknowledged that changes were necessary following the team’s struggles. Carroll departs Las Vegas with one of the shortest head-coaching stints in Raiders history.

The official statement read, “The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Pete Carroll of his duties as head coach. We appreciate and wish him and his family all the best.”

Another notable announcement is Tom Brady’s involvement in the next phase of the franchise’s rebuild. The seven-time Super Bowl champion, who became a minority owner of the Raiders earlier this year, will work alongside Spytek to identify and evaluate head coaching candidates.

Further down the statement, the organization wrote, “Moving forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations in close collaboration with Tom Brady, including the search for the club’s next head coach.” According to team officials, Brady’s role will focus on leadership evaluation, insights into football operations, and long-term vision. While the NFL legend will not be involved in day-to-day football management, his presence adds star power and credibility to the search process.

The Raiders have not released a list of potential candidates. Per ESPN, the team is expected to explore both experienced NFL head coaches and highly regarded coordinators. The goal, according to the organization, is to find a leader capable of establishing stability and reversing years of inconsistency.

The Reality of the Raiders

While Pete Carroll’s dismissal appeared imminent, he is not the first head coach to be fired in a short time. Before the NFL’s oldest head coach, the Raiders worked with Anthony Pierce and Josh McDaniels. The Raiders had a tough season, with a ranking near the bottom in almost every offensive category.

The team also struggled with defense. Defensive end Maxx Crosby finished with 10 sacks, but the unit as a whole still struggled. Currently, the Raiders have the number one pick in the 2026 NFL draft, indicating a step toward a rebuild.
