Anxiety and depression rates are rising, but these X uplifting wellness trends can help keep our mental health on top during the Coronavirus crisis.

Since its outbreak, the ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease produced profound changes all around the globe. It has brought some very stressful times upon all of us, making us struggle with financial worries, the fear of getting infected or losing a loved one, and a lot of uncertainty.

On top of that, our lifestyles and everyday habits took a significant hit because of the effects of the pandemic, such as social distancing restrictions and home lockdown. Unsurprisingly, federal agencies and many experts warn that we are about to experience a historic wave of mental health issues, including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and even suicide.

Now, is there anything we could do to fight back the impact of the pandemic on our mental health? Absolutely! Here are the four uplifting wellness trends that have stood out over the past few months and showed the bright sides of the pandemic. And, most importantly, could help us all keep out mental health on top.

  1. Home is the new fitness studio

Who says you have to stop working out your body now that gyms are closed? No one! In fact, there are so many fitness instructors out there inspiring us to stay active even if we are locked in our homes.

As the stay-at-home orders were spreading lately, and gyms have been closed almost everywhere across the globe, free fitness and yoga workouts, many of them delightfully low tech, were multiplying on social media platforms.

The trend of video fitness instructions isn’t new. Yet, it seems like it is skyrocketing right now, mainly because there is a greater audience asking for them. According to Statista, as of March 2020, 16% of American adults reported using more online exercise videos because of social distancing and self-quarantining orders.

So, there’s no excuse for any of us to stop working out during the home lockdown.

Now, it’s no secret that there’s a strong connection between staying active and mental health. Many scientific studies have linked exercising to improved mental health because when we exercise, our bodies release chemicals called endorphins, which trigger a positive feeling in the body, reduce emotional stress, and offer a sense of wellbeing.

  1. Healthy cooking at home

When was the last time when you had the time to prepare a delicious healthy meal for yourself before the pandemic? Most likely, a long, long time ago because for like many of us busy bees, eating out was the most convenient solution. Yet, now we all have all the time we need to cook at home.

According to a recent survey, 54% of respondents reported cooking more than they did before the pandemic. Moreover, 75% said that they are now more confident in their cooking skills. Plus, 51% claimed that they are planning to continue to cook more after these uncertain times are over. But that’s not all! Interest in online cooking tutorials, recipe websites, and food blogs has seen a massive increase.

You know what they say: you are what you eat. And, make no mistake, proper nutrition is just as crucial for your mental health as it is for your physical wellbeing. So, now it’s the time to start cooking some nutritious and delicious meals that boost your mental wellbeing. You can include in your diet foods such as leafy greens, nuts, seeds, berries, and oily fish.

  1. CBD is part of the wellness routine

If you have never tried CBD before, now it’s the time to test the effects of this popular natural remedy that has taken the wellness industry by storm.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, many people have turned to this natural remedy for support with their coronavirus-related anxiety problems. According to a recent survey from Brightfield Group, it seems like e-commerce sales of hemp-derived CBD products, such as Organic CBD Nugs, have spiked. The survey suggests that four in ten consumers reported planning to use CBD more frequently due to the pandemic, with 15% of them reported planning to use a higher dose.

So, what’s the deal with CBD and how it can help with mental health wellbeing? Many scientific studies suggest that CBD may be an excellent natural remedy for mental health issues, thanks to its anti-depressant like effects. CBD can impact the brain’s natural receptors for serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for moods and social behavior.

  1. #Self-care#Self-love

If you’ve been spending a lot of time on social media lately as well, you’ve seen a lot of hashtags related to self-care and self-love, together with some inspiring pictures of people doing many things from meditating to laughing, reading, or enjoying a bubble bath.

Now, with so many bad news lately, we could all need some good news, and here it is: we’ve so much free time for ourselves. Whatever you didn’t have time for before the pandemic, now you can do it, whether is meditating, practicing yoga, reading inspiring books, spending time with your loved ones, or even binge-watching your favorite TV series. And, the Internet is here to help.

For example, they say that laughter is the best medicine. And, unless you’ve been living under a rock these past months, you’ve surely noticed all the funny videos and social media challenges taking over the social media platforms to help us keep boredom at bay.

Feel like meditating or practicing yoga? Many yoga and meditation apps can help you reduce lockdown stress and practice #self-care. And, the good news is that many of them have become free to show support during these uncertain times.

Miss your loved ones but can’t get out of the house to meet with them? Why not create a binge-watching party of Netflix’s new extension called Netflix Party? You can watch movies together and talk as loud as you want without anyone shushing you. If you’re not in the mood for a movie night, you can meet your favorite people and hang out on Facebook’s Messenger’s newest feature called Messenger room.

Wellness in the time of Coronavirus pandemic might not be as we are used to know it. Yet, you’ve got the time and lots of resources to practice it even while locked in your home.
