The Music of Harry Potter Takes Center Stage at The Smith Center

The Dr. Shirley Linzy Young Artists Orchestra of Las Vegas will celebrate its 5th anniversary season with its largest event to date featuring the music of Harry Potter.

The event will commence with the national anthem by Golden Knights own Carnell “Golden Pipes” Johnson, and will feature the YAO Academy Orchestra and Symphony covering music from the movies including music from the original soundtrack. The children’s choir from The Meadows School will also make an appearance.

The Dr. Shirley Linzy Young Artists Orchestra of Las Vegas (also known as The Las Vegas Young Artists Orchestra) is the only tuition-free and professional training music program in the State of Nevada. Their Smith Center debut featuring the music of West Side Story was such a success that the organization decided to return with the music of Harry Potter by John Williams, Alexander Desplat, and Nicholas Hooper. The concert will also feature a world premier by local composer and YAO alumni Arturo Hernandez. The work, entitled Voldemort, is based on a piece of the same name by John Williams which never made it onto the original soundtrack. The work will be premiered by the YAO Symphony and Music Director Yunior Lopez.

The ensembles will cover popular works from the Sorcerer’s Stone, the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Order of the Phoenix, and Deathly Hallows. Specific hit works being performed include Hedwig’s Theme, Harry’s Wondrous World, and Quidditch. Local world class violinist Yuri Cho will make an appearance performing the violin solo in Diagon Alley, and award-winning bassoonist and YAO alumni Jordan Farber will perform Fluffy’s Harp with harpist Izabella Tu.

The Young Artists Orchestra invites everyone to come dressed as their favorite wizard and relive the magic of Harry Potter at the beautiful Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
