Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada Announces First Annual Community Justice Fellowship

Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and Paul Padda Law will formally announce the creation of the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada Community Justice Fellowship, sponsored by Paul Padda Law, on August 6, 2019 at 11:30 am at Legal Aid Center located at 725 E. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV  89104.

The year-long fellowship is designed to give a law school graduate or new attorney valuable legal training and the opportunity to gain practical experience in the areas of law handled by Legal Aid Center, while earning a staff attorney level salary with benefits.

“The purpose of the Community Justice Fellowship is not only to assist with the great unmet legal need at Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada,” said Barbara Buckley, executive director of Legal Aid Center, “but to expose the fellow to the workings of a public interest law practice.” Preference will be given to a member of a diverse group that is historically underrepresented in the practice of law and is fluent in a language spoken in a local underserved community.

“The one resounding conclusion I arrived at during my time as an Assistant United States Attorney and Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Justice,” said Paul Padda, “is that “justice” can be dramatically impacted by quality lawyering and advocacy. I believe this Fellowship will help fund an outstanding attorney that can make a significant impact in the lives of others. It’s important to help build more vital resources to help the vulnerable, well, become less vulnerable.”

Legal Aid Center will award a one-year Community Justice Fellowship to a law student graduate, outgoing judicial law clerk, or an attorney with less than 3 years of postgraduate legal experience who wants to work in a public interest law firm and learn how the top legal aid in Nevada assists over 125,000 individuals a year.

Applications are being accepted through September 27, 2019 and can be found at www.lacsn.org/CJFellowship. Information on the fellowship and Paul Padda Law can be found at https://www.paulpaddalaw.com/about-us/community-justice-fellowship/.
