Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art Extends ‘Figuratively Speaking’ Exhibition

Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA) is pleased to announce the extension of its current exhibition, Figuratively Speaking: A Survey of the Human Form, through March 27, 2011. Organized in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), ‘Figuratively Speaking’ has received rave reviews from critics and patrons alike since opening in May 2010.
 
With artworks culled from MCASD and MFA’s permanent collections, alongside works from MGM Resorts International’s Fine Art Collection, ‘Figuratively Speaking’ showcases a wide range of figurative styles in a variety of media by artists whose unique perspectives have defined the genre. Although different schools of art fall under the heading of Figurative, from the Cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso and the Surrealist sculptures of Alberto Giacometti to the Pop Art collages of Keith Haring and the Photorealistic portraits of Chuck Close, all of the figurative works of art on display use the human form in innovative ways, provoking the most varied of interpretations.
 
“We’ve had record visitor numbers since ‘Figuratively Speaking’ opened, including more than 1,600 guests on our first ever National Museum Day during which gallery patrons enjoyed free admission to BGFA,” says BGFA Director Tarissa Tiberti. “The response has been so great that we wanted to ensure that everyone had a chance to see this particular collection of works, most of which are being shown together for the first time.'”

Following the extended run of ‘Figuratively Speaking’ will be ‘A Sense of Place: Landscapes From Monet to Hockney,’ which will encompass a wide range of landscape styles. ‘A Sense of Place’ will open April 16, 2011 and will feature works by well known and highly celebrated artists including Claude Monet, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Helen Frankenthaler and Sylvia Mangold among others.

Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is open Sunday through Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Last admissions are sold 30 minutes prior to closing.
