“Zappos goes beyond its role as a retailer by being a pioneer and leader in the community,” said Jack Kenn, vice president, senior resident general manager for Blue Man Group Las Vegas. “Similarly, Blue Man Group strives to take its message beyond the theater into everyday life in a fun and interactive way, so a partnership was a natural fit. We’re excited to get it going.”

To kick off the event, Zappos executives came down to get their head shaved in honor of the Bald and Blue event, but Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh was nowhere in sight. Blue Man Group made a surprise entrance by rolling out a giant boombox and road case. As they approached the head shaving station, the Blue Men opened the case to reveal Hsieh inside. The trio initiated Hsieh’s “haircut” using a pair of giant scissors, a Flowbee, a razor and more as the crowd of staff members cheered and laughed.

Following, Blue Man Group unveiled the “ShoeZaphone” in the lobby to hundreds of Zappos employees. The new installation encourages passersby to experiment and show their “sole” by creating a custom video display and soundtrack. The playful attraction is permanently located in the lobby of Zappos’ downtown campus and symbolizes the developing relationship between Blue Man Group and the retailer. The crowd cheered as the Blue Men taught Hsieh how to interact with and play the piece. The excited coworkers took note and also tested out their campus’ new fixture.

“We’ve been a supporter of Zappos’ charity event in the past,” explained Kenn. “We wanted to make this year’s appearance as well as the beginning of our partnership exciting for the employees by gifting them with a one-of-a-kind Blue Man Group creation that will make their workspace more fun.”

Symbolizing a developing partnership, Blue Man Group’s “ShoeZaphone” will integrate into Zappos’ campus tours, taking thousands of patrons on a wacky journey through the imagination that defines both companies. Through the partnership, Blue Man Group and Zappos fans alike can look forward to more exciting collaborations in the future.
