Broadway in the H.O.O.D to Debut Mystery Thriller "A Soldier’s Play" at The Smith Center
Broadway in the H.O.O.D
is excited to debut the Pulitzer Prize-winning whodunit, A Soldier’s Play at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts’ Troesh Theatre January 11, 2019 – January 13, 2019 for four dynamic performances.

A Soldier’s Play debuted in 1981 earning unanimous praise, launching the careers of Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Adolph Caesar, David Allen Greer, and many others, and subsequently becoming the basis of a major motion picture, A Soldier’s Story in 1984. The play uses a murder mystery in a segregated U.S. Army base during World War II to uncover anger and resentment among African-Americans that intriguingly mimic white racist attitudes. A black sergeant has been murdered and, to the surprise of everyone on the base, a black captain is sent to investigate. He is greeted with a range of reactions – mistrust by his counterpart, a white captain, disdain by other white officers, and enthusiasm by the black soldiers, who are hoping that the local KKK will be blamed for the crime.

A Soldier’s Play won an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play and three Obie Awards.

Join Broadway in the H.O.O.D at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts for this gripping drama, starring 12 local male actors under the consulting direction of stage, screen and TV veteran actor Antonio “Huggy Bear” Fargas!
