Capturing Pablo: an Evening with DEA Agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on Nov. 1
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña (pictured) – credited for the downfall of the Medellin Cartel’s “King of Cocaine” Pablo Escobar – will share their Netflix-series-inspiring story at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on Wednesday, Nov. 1 with “Capturing Pablo,” a one-of-a-kind interactive “Narcos” experience.
The actions of Murphy and Peña inspired the hugely popular Netflix original series “Narcos,” which tells the story of Colombia’s infamous drug cartels and Escobar’s fight to unite the people of Colombia and maintain his status as a power player in the drug game. At Brooklyn Bowl, agents Murphy and Peña will speak about the rise and fall of the Medellin Cartel and the role the agents played in bringing down its notorious leader.
The experience will be nothing like fans of Brooklyn Bowl, nor fans of the series or the folklore surrounding the Colombian cartels, have ever seen. The evening’s discussion will shed light on the influence Peña and Murphy had on “Narcos,” where they will go deeper into their personal history and share details of the extensive investigation not featured on the Netflix original. Following the discussion will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to ask questions of the agents themselves.
Murphy began his career in 1975 as a police officer in the City of Bluefield, WV. In 1987, Murphy joined the DEA as a special agent and was assigned to Miami, Fla., where the cocaine trade was exploding. In 1991, Special Agent Murphy was transferred to Bogota, Colombia. It was there that Murphy and his partner, Retired Special Agent Peña, targeted the notorious narco-terrorist Escobar and the Medellin Cartel. Murphy received multiple honors and awards, during his career, including ‘DEA Special Agent of the Year’ and the ‘Distinguished Service Cross’ from the Republic of Colombia.
Peña was brought up in Kingsville, Tex., and he joined the DEA in 1984. Four years later the retired special agent in charge volunteered for an assignment in Bogota, Colombia. Peña was awarded Colombia’s highest honor for his efforts, and received commendation awards from the DEA and the wider international community. He is regarded as an expert on the subject of the Medellin Cartel.
Capturing Pablo at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas is for ages 18 and up.
