Carlos Santana and Dan Aykroyd “Mix The Mud” for Santana’s Grand Opening at House of Blues Las Vegas
On the night of Carlos Santana’s grand opening at the House of Blues Las Vegas on Friday, May 4, 2012, a special “mud mixing” ceremony was performed by distinguished guests House of Blues co-founder Dan Aykroyd and promoter/co-founder of the original Woodstock event Michael Lang (Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com).

Traditionally, under every stage at each House of Blues location, a metal box filled with Delta Mississippi mud is welded to the stage to ensure that every artist that performs has the roots and the spirit of the South planted beneath their feet.
In welcoming Santana to the House of Blues family, mud from the Delta was combined with mud delivered from Woodstock and mud from the birthplace of Carlos Santana in Mexico, symbolizing Santana’s roots now planted at House of Blues Las Vegas.

The combined mud will be displayed within the venue for fans to see for years to come. The tradition of the mud ceremony began when the first House of Blues venue was established in 1992 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
