Celebrity Sighting: Comedy Magician Mike Hammer with Don Rickles, Tony Oppedisano and Sonny Turner
Comedian Don Rickles, nicknamed “Mr. Warmth” by Johnny Carson, was visited last night by comedy magician and Four Queens headliner Mike Hammer. Rickles had just performed at the Orleans Showroom in Las Vegas.
Hammer also visited with Tony Oppedisano, also known as Tony O, who is Rickles’ long-time road manager and former road manager and best friend of Frank Sinatra.
Sonny Turner, the lead singer of the Platters in the 60’s, also posed with Hammer backstage.
Don Rickles has received two Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Musical for the 2008 HBO special “Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project.” In 2009, cable network TV Land honored Rickles with the “Legend Award.” Rickles’ best-selling memoir “Rickles’ Book” was released in 2007, and was followed up with the 2008 title “Rickles’ Letters.” In addition to recurring dates in Las Vegas at The Orleans, Rickles continues to be a popular performer in venues throughout the country.
Sonny Turner was the lead singer of the motown group The Platters. The Platters, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are one of the top 25 best-selling artists of all time and have had 14 top 20 hits, including “The Great Pretender,” “Only You” and “The Magic Touch”.
