Last night, musical genius Paul Shaffer took the stage with his talented full band, The Shāf-Shifters, at the iconic Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. To kick-off opening night of his limited three-week engagement, Shaffer was joined by television icon and former boss, David Letterman (Pictured: David Letterman and Paul Shaffer – Photo credit: Denise Truscello / WireImage).

For 33 years, Shaffer served as Letterman’s musical director and sidekick. Letterman joined his life-long friend on stage to reminisce with anecdotes and stories from decades of working with the biggest names in music, film and television.

Shaffer then surprised Letterman by introducing Randy Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive and invited the Canadian musician on stage to perform “Takin’ Care of Business,” one of Letterman’s favorites.

Also in the audience was singer, songwriter and guitarist Kenny Loggins. True to the culture and rich history of the classic Vegas lounge experience at Caesars Palace, you never know who might show up on stage each night.
