Free Mexican Independence Day Concert at The LINQ Promenade, Sept. 14
The LINQ Promenade
will host a FREE Mexican Independence Day concert on its Fountain Stage to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Festivities will include music by DJ Ethos, performances by Ballet Folklórico Sol Huasteco, and a headlining concert performance by bi-lingual hip-hop artist, producer and cultural voice, Olmeca.
Additionally, over a dozen artists from Las Vegas will set up a pop-up “Art Bloq” on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 12 p.m. to midnight. The pop-up art show includes a local collective of artisans who will be doing live demos, adding final touches and working on special projects as guests watch, giving visitors a chance to purchase original art created by the thriving Las Vegas Mexican American art scene.

Olmeca is a bilingual hip-hop artist, producer, activist and scholar who has been featured on Complex Magazine, NPR, BBC London, Huffington Post, Noisey, Democracy Now and CNN Latino. His work has been featured on various documentaries including PBS “Independent Lens”, and “Two Americans,” a documentary about the immigration issues in Arizona.  He has written music for TV shows including “Sons of Anarchy,” “CHANCE” on HULU, and new series, “The Mayans” on FX.  He is a Kennedy Center Artist Fellow and Faculty at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Ballet Folklórico Sol Huasteco is a Las Vegas-based organization that focuses on education and preservation of Mexican culture and tradition through folk dance. Established in 2012, troupe members share their love of dance and dedication to traditional art.
