It’s been more than three decades since Allman first made his impact on rock music as lead singer, organist and songwriter in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Allman Brothers Band, which he helped create in 1969. Known for their bluesy, improvisational style, the group hit it big in the 1970s, headlining sold-out concerts across the country. Just as their album Brothers and Sisters (1973) was climbing the charts, Allman emerged as a solo artist.

Allman’s debut album Laid Back (1973) was a hit and was received well by critics. With a more soulful sound, Allman reworked a number of Allman Brothers songs, such as “Midnight Rider,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at #19. His success continued with Playin’ Up a Storm (1977) and the single “I’m No Angel” from the 1987 gold certified album of the same name. Just Before the Bullets Fly (1988) and Searching for Simplicity (1997) later followed.

In 2011, fourteen years since Searching for Simplicity, Allman released Low Country Blues. A year later, he and his band mates of the Allman Brothers Band were honored with the special Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award. Allman also received the Living Legend award from Classic Rock magazine in November 2014, and recently was the guest of honor at the 67th annual BMI/NAB Dinner. He is currently making plans for a new solo record.

With the Allman Brothers wrapping up their storied forty-five year career last October, Allman is showing no signs of slowing down. In August, Concord Records will release Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA, a stellar live DVD/CD package that captures Allman and his eight-piece solo band in a high-energy performance. This emotive show was recorded in January, 2014 at the Grand Opera House in Macon, GA, the Middle Georgia town where it all began for the Allman Brothers Band. Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA features sixteen tracks, made up of a nicely-varied selection of songs from the ABB catalog (“Statesboro Blues,” “Melissa,” “Whipping Post”), tunes from Allman’s solo albums (“Queen of Hearts,” “I’m No Angel”) and several dynamic cover songs.

Doors at The Pearl will open at 7 p.m. and show time is 8 p.m. The Pearl Box Office is open daily from noon until 7 p.m. with extended hours on select event days.
