Hawaiian Reggae Musicians, The Green, Bring Their Irie Vibes to Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip April 29

Hawaiian reggae artists, The Green, come to Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip with Fortunate Youth, Haleamano and ForTwentyDaze on Friday, April 29.

Formed by four friends from Oahu, Hawaii in 2009, The Green blends roots reggae with traditional Hawaiian vibes. Singer Caleb Keolanui is a soulful young singer with an amazingly high vocal range and often referred to as the “harmony master” within the group. Caleb is known as the band’s lead singer, though many of the members sing, add harmonies, and back-up vocals. Guitarist J.P. Kennedy also adds vocals to the group and has been described as “powerful” and “captivating.” Ikaika Antone grew up perfecting his skills on the keyboard and as a vocalist and went on to be a featured musician in many of Hawaii’s top contemporary bands. Singer and guitarist Zion Thompson has performed and toured throughout much of the United States, and has first-hand experience at what it takes to keep a group together. These four men all contribute key elements that create The Green’s sound.

The Green’s music has the traditional driving drum and bass sound that is quintessential of reggae music, and the push and pull of rhythm instruments, which is crucial to the roots reggae sound. Their self-titled debut album, “The Green,” reached number three on the Billboard’s Reggae Chart and remained in the Top 10 for 25 weeks. It was also named iTunes Best Reggae Album of 2010 and has sold over 16,000 copies. The Green were rewarded best reggae album at the 2011 Hawaii Music Awards and played three shows in February supporting Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley on the Distant Relatives Tour.
