On April 24, 25 and 26, Rogers will be returning to The Orleans Showroom for three 8 p.m. performances.

Houston-born Rogers formed his first band, The Scholars, while in high school in 1956, and his music career has continued uninterrupted to this day. In 1967, Rogers helped form The First Edition, leading the band to its first hit “I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).” Within a year, the band was renamed Kenny Rogers and The First Edition, and his distinctive voice led the group to both pop and country chart success with “Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town.”

Shortly after the group disbanded in 1974, Rogers began his highly-successful solo country career. One of his first singles, “Lucille,” topped both the pop and country charts, was named CMA’s Single of the Year, certified Gold, and ultimately, shot him straight into stardom. “Daytime Friends,” “Sweet Music Man,” and “Love or Something Like It” continued his run of success. Then came “The Gambler,” a story-song which eventually became a TV movie starring Rogers himself in the title role, which launched Rogers on a second career as an actor.

In the 1980s, Rogers sang such classic, romantic hits as “Through the Years,” “She Believes In Me,” and “Lady.” And in 1999, after forming his own record company, Dreamcatcher Entertainment, Rogers found himself back on the country chart with “The Greatest,” and his No. 1 hit, “Buy Me a Rose.” That same year, the Recording Industry Association of America awarded Rogers the prestigious Diamond Award celebrating sales of more than 10 million albums for his “Greatest Hits” album. The year of 2008 marked his 50th anniversary in show business and Rogers is currently the eighth Best Selling Male Artist of all time according to the RIAA, with 20 Platinum® albums
