Known as “Las Vegas’ First Lady of Jazz,” critically acclaimed vocalist Michelle Johnson returns to Myron’s Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center on April 19 with A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month.
Featuring Ella’s best-known hits, A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald highlights the key points of the jazz legend’s illustrious career – from her early beginnings with the Chick Webb Band to her timeless Great American Songbook recordings with Verve Records and beyond. Enjoy the music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and more, with swinging arrangements, the soaring vocals Michelle Johnson is known for, and a stellar ten-piece band led by pianist and Musical Director Bill Zappia (of the Terry Fator Show).
Michelle’s special guest is Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Jane Monheit. Monheit’s latest album “The Songbook Sessions: Ella Fitzgerald” is a gorgeous nod to Ella’s repertoire. The New York Times described Monheit as having “a voice of phenomenal beauty.”

Michelle Johnson’s liquid vocals, versatile repertoire, and dynamic, engaging style have made her a favorite in cabarets and performing arts centers across the country. She has starred in sold-out productions in Las Vegas and beyond; performed on Broadway; and appeared and recorded with legendary artists including Gladys Knight, Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, and others. Michelle’s upcoming album of originals is being produced by Grammy winner Kamau Kenyatta (producer for Grammy winner Gregory Porter and others).
Presented in the intimate setting of Myron’s Cabaret Jazz inside The Smith Center, A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald promises to be an elegant evening of entertainment and classic jazz. Michelle’s unique sound and storytelling style will engage you from the first note to the last.
