Las Vegas to Host Official Academy Awards Celebration

The 84th Academy Awards will be in Hollywood. But, the party weekend for Oscar fans will be in “The City of Entertainment.”

Officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Oscar Night Las Vegas, Feb. 25-26, 2012, will offer movie fans a weekend celebration of the excitement and glamour of the Academy Awards and is the latest branded event targeted at attracting visitors to Las Vegas.

“Oscar night is an event meant to be a shared with others. This is a natural extension of that experience,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “We are thrilled to be able to celebrate the movies with fans nationwide.”

“Oscar Night Las Vegas also represents the year-round philanthropic work that the Academy does,” said Ms. Hudson. Proceeds from Oscar Night Las Vegas will benefit Variety, The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada, which since 1950 has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for local special needs children.

Since 1993, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sponsored Oscar viewing parties nationwide as part of their grassroots outreach program to benefit local charities. Last year, 51 charities hosted viewing parties for the 83rd Academy Awards, raising more than $3.5 million, all of it remaining in local communities.

In addition to supporting Variety of Southern Nevada, Oscar Night Las Vegas will also provide an estimated 40-million Academy Awards fans in North America with another reason to visit Las Vegas, according to Oscar Night Las Vegas Executive Producer Clinton Ford Billups Jr.

“With an estimated one-billion-plus Academy Awards viewers in more than 200 countries, Oscar Night Las Vegas also has the potential to attract movie fans worldwide to visit Las Vegas on Academy Awards weekend,” said Mr. Billups.

“For marketers, the Academy Awards is considered the Super Bowl for women. Oscar Night Las Vegas is a significant opportunity for Las Vegas entertainment, hospitality and retail businesses to reach an upscale female demographic,” added Mr. Billups.

“Almost 60% of Academy Awards viewers are women who are typically at least 35 years old, college educated with incomes of at least $75,000 per year and living in upscale suburban areas or major urban centers in the New England, Mid-Atlantic or Pacific regions of the U.S.,” noted Mr. Billups. “These upscale consumers are twice as likely to be Academy Awards viewers according to marketing research conducted by The Nielsen Company.”

Oscar Night Las Vegas will feature both free and ticketed events at multiple citywide locations, including a fashion show at Fashion Show Mall, a celebrity welcome reception at The Palms Casino Resort, celebrity red carpet arrivals and theater viewing of the live telecast of the 84th Academy Awards at Brenden Theatres, gourmet dining at Oscar Night Las Vegas official restaurants and the official Oscar Night After-Party at The Playboy Club.
