Michael Phelps Looks to Play His Cards Right at 44th Annual World Series of Poker at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino
Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was one of 482 poker pros and card sharks to take a seat in the 2013 World Series of Poker’s (WSOP) No Limit Hold ‘Em/Eight Handed tournament at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino Wednesday night (Photo credit: Jane Fuhrman/WSOP-Poker News).
The decorated athlete sporting a blue v-neck T-shirt and beard was one of 196 participants to survive and move on to day two of the four-day event. Phelps was set to begin play at 2 p.m. today where he looks to add a gold bracelet to his gold medal collection. WSOP’s opening weekend will kick off in grand style this Saturday with its “Millionare Maker” event.
The winner of the $1,500, one-day No-Limit Hold ‘Em tournament will go home with the grand prize of $1,000,000. Phelps and other poker fanatics will have plenty of more chances to win as the WSOP stays in full-swing until Sunday, July 14.
