More Poker ‘Deals’ Signed at Golden Nugget Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, once again marking its significance in the poker world, announces two new major poker projects signed at the legendary resort.

The property has partnered with GSN to film the fifth season of High Stakes Poker in The Grand Dec. 19-21, as well as signed a deal with the World Poker Tour to become the new Las Vegas home of their successful and popular WPT Boot Camp, the first iteration being its two-day Tournament Camp Jan. 24-25, 2009.

These announcements come on the heels of filming the 2009 season of NBC’s Poker After Dark at the Golden Nugget that concluded Nov. 5 and will begin airing Dec. 29. The resort also recently held the very successful Grand Poker Series last spring, and will soon be hosting its autumn variation, The Grand Fall Classic Poker Series, Nov. 24-30.

GSN’s High Stakes Poker is a groundbreaking television poker program that gives viewers a first-ever glimpse into the biggest, private No-limit Hold ‘em Cash Games going. Intensity hangs heavy in the air as players both win and lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in their own money, sometimes in a single hand. The upcoming season’s minimum buy-in is up to $200,000, the largest cash buy in for an entire television series. High Stakes Poker’s inaugural season was also filmed at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas.

WPT Boot Camp is special, two- or three-day poker training session designed to give attendees the knowledge and tools to fully understand tells, reads and strategies integral to improving their game. The WPT Boot Camp is geared to all poker players from novice to expert and features an integrated curriculum that includes live lecture, archived footage from WPT and interactive game playing. WPT Boot Camp utilizes an all-star staff of instructors including Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, T.J. Cloutier, Mark Seif and Clonie Gowen. These individuals have been hand picked for their expertise and are regarded as some of the most talented, knowledgeable and skilled poker players in the world. In addition to the January camp, the WPT Boot Camp will also hold its two-day Cash Edition Mar. 7-8 and an additional three-day camp May 23-25.

The Grand Fall Classic Poker Series, running Nov. 24-30, will feature more than 30 tables of non-Hold ‘em tournaments daily, including Omaha, Pot Limit Omaha, HORSE and a new Mixed Games Tournament with favorites like 2-7 Triple Draw, 7 Stud High/Low and Crazy Pineapple. Each tournament is a trophy event and begins at noon daily, with buy-ins of $230. Each features an 8,000 starting chip stack with additional 2,000 bonus chips available for $10 more at registration.

In addition to The Grand Fall Classic Poker Series, the Golden Nugget features $65 No Limit Hold ’em tournaments at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. daily, where each buy-in gets 2,000 in chips and an opportunity for one $40 re-buy, for 3,000 more.
