As part of their Saints of Los Angeles 2009 Tour, Mötley Crüe helped close the doors of The Joint’s old venue in true rock ‘n’ roll fashion (Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com). It was the final curtain call as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino prepares to close down one legendary venue to open up a new one.
The New Joint will double in size while keeping the same atmosphere of the original venue and will carry on the up-close and authentic feel with the furthest seat in the house only 155 feet from the stage. The New Joint will be a multipurpose facility featuring a state-of-the-art sound system, an innovative lighting system, WiFi access throughout the venue, a full blogging station for press covering events, and 38 flat screens throughout the venue to guarantee the ultimate viewing experience.
Paul McCartney will headline the grand opening of The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas on Sunday, April 19.
Comments by photographer Erik Kabik:
On a personal note , I was at the first show at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. I moved to Vegas in 1995 and found a job as a bar back/busser at the Hard Rock (just days before it opened I wandered in and found a job on a whim) and I was working the Joint on opening night for MTV broadcast of The Eagles concert. Since then I went on to become a professional photographer, photographing dozens and dozens of shows in the Joint between 1996 and 2009. I saw 200 or more concerts there over the past 14 years. (The Ramones, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tool, Fiona Apple, Devo, Santana, Chuck Berry, Yes, Oasis… to name a few standouts). So to be there and capture this show tonight meant a lot to me as I have seen a lot of great music in this hall and tonight was a great way to seal it off, with a thunderous rock and roll show. Over the top and big.
The Crue rocked it with pyrotechnics and all and the house was packed! Fans were lined up through the casino all the way back down into the poker lounge area to get in and grab a good spot. I look forward to the Killers and Paul McCartney shows to open up the new Joint in April.
