New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display to Usher in 2011; Las Vegas Set for the Ultimate Party

Officials from Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) joined city leaders and Fireworks by Grucci today at the Fashion Show Mall on the Las Vegas Strip to announce the details for America’s Party 2011, the citywide New Year’s Eve Party planned for Dec. 31.

The fireworks extravaganza on the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street will ring in 2011 in classic Las Vegas style.  The theme of the pyrotechnic display will be “Party – Las Vegas,” featuring distinctive music and colors to ring in the New Year.

The firing locations include (from the south, heading north): MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island (TI), The Venetian and Stratosphere.

As a culmination to a full year of planning, Fireworks by Grucci has coordinated an 8 minute, six second program consisting of 49,375 effects that will light up the Las Vegas Strip.  At the outset, a barrage of blue, green and gold aerial shells, highlighted by thunderous titanium flash salutes, will light up the sky. During Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” the sky will flash with golden willow comets, accented by yellow, red and orange shells, followed by volleys of red peonies with white pistils, silver crackling palm trees and red and gold strobing aerials during Katy Perry’s “Waking Up in Vegas.”  Effects such as green jetting comets, sparkling willow mines, red strobing rain shells, silver popping flowers, purple and yellow strobing comets will be used throughout. The finale will feature accents of red, purple, green, gold, silver and titanium shells.

“There is no better place to party than Las Vegas, and New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas has become the biggest party of them all,” Mayor Oscar B. Goodman said. “You can really feel the excitement building as word starts to get out about the fireworks spectacular and the amazing lineup of entertainment on The Strip and downtown at the Fremont Street Experience and the Fremont East Entertainment District.”

“America’s Party has become one of the most anticipated events of the year, and this year the display is aptly themed as ‘Party – Las Vegas’,” said Las Vegas Events President Pat Christenson.  “For the 12th consecutive year, we will coordinate this display for the thousands of revelers on the Strip and those watching around the world.  This celebration is only possible because of the cooperation between the LVCVA, Las Vegas Events, Fireworks by Grucci, the Clark County Fire Department and Building Services and the individual resort properties.”

According to the LVCVA, Las Vegas continues to be a top destination for thousands of visitors on New Year’s Eve.

“Las Vegas will again be the destination of choice for hundreds of thousands of visitors ready to say goodbye to 2010 and ring in 2011,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “Las Vegas expects to host more than 310,000 visitors on New Year’s Eve, a testament to the power and allure of the destination as the place for celebration and escape.”

Fireworks by Grucci is world renowned for its pyrotechnic creations. The group recently created the spectacular Grand Opening of the Atlantis Hotel and The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai and has executed numerous presidential inaugurations and citywide celebrations.  Locally, Fireworks by Grucci has produced many of Las Vegas’ largest special events and grand openings, including the official Las Vegas Centennial celebration.

“The Grucci Family is honored and proud to once again be requested by Las Vegas Events to paint the heavens with a tapestry of color and bombardment that only Fireworks by Grucci can deliver,” said Felix Grucci, executive vice president of Fireworks by Grucci.  “We have had the honor to produce seven America’s Party celebrations.  We rest our six generation reputation on this year’s performance, which promises to be a spectacular welcoming to the year 2011.”

America’s Party is the official moniker coined by the LVCVA and Las Vegas Events to signify the annual citywide celebration. This year’s festivities include both the themed fireworks extravaganza on the Las Vegas Strip and the live concerts and fireworks under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience.  Themed as the third annual TributePalooza, the world’s best tribute bands will be performing live on Fremont Street from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m. (PT) on both the 1st Street and 3rd Street stages. TributePalooza pays homage to some of the most popular groups of all time with electrifying performances and includes tributes to AC/DC, Aerosmith, Green Day, Heart, Led Zeppelin, No Doubt, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, Styx, Sublime and Van Halen.

For those planning to spend the evening downtown, admission to TributePalooza is $20 per person and marks the only time of year when Fremont Street Experience has paid, ticketed admission.  Fremont Street Experience is restricted to persons 21 and over on New Year’s Eve.  To purchase tickets in advance go to https://shop.prestigeticketing.com/goldennugget/store.jsp?merchant=DST or call 702-386-8100.
