Penn Gets Haircut From Teller at Locks of Love Donation Event
Rio headliner Penn Jillette, the outspoken half of the comedy-magic duo Penn & Teller, allowed co-star Teller to cut off 10 inches of his signature ponytail in a Locks of Love donation event at Rio Spa & Salon at The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on August 25, 2010 (Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com).
It has been noted that Penn has been sporting the look for almost 25 years, and while he has not had it insured like other stars and their famed attributes, the locks were considered priceless.
“One of our co-workers at the Rio has a little granddaughter who is going through chemo (and expected to be fine),” said Jillette. “All the long-haired employees of the Rio were asked to donate some hair in her name,” he continued. “I don’t think a two year old would look good in my long curly hair, but I hope someone can use it. There’s no panic, I can give 10″ and still have enough left for a ponytail to hide my microphone cables. We all wish her the best.”
Penn’s Hairstylist was Barbara Kilkarsky.

Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 21 and younger with medical hair loss. These custom-fitted hair prosthetics are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale to children whose families meet the Locks of Love Board of Directors guidelines.

The organization, which began operation in 1998, strives to help all financially disadvantaged children who are living with the daily trials of medical hair loss. Donors provide the hair, volunteers open and sort the donations, and the manufacturer hand-assembles each piece, which requires approximately four to six months. Children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have the opportunity to help other children.
