Recycled Percussion Performs at America's Cup Opening Ceremonies
On Fourth of July, hometown headliners Recycled Percussion honored America by performing at the opening ceremonies of the 2013 America’s Cup

The America’s Cup is a sailing yacht race that dates back to 1851, featuring the oldest active trophy in the history of international sports. The 34th America’s Cup kicked off on July 4 in San Francisco with lavish opening ceremonies at America’s Cup Park.

The day’s program included cultural performances and exhibitions from each of the four competing nations: the United States, Sweden, New Zealand and Italy. This year the defending champions were Oracle Team USA.

Recycled Percussion, the ‘America’s Got Talent’ finalists and headliners at The Quad Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, were chosen to represent the United States at the opening ceremonies for this prestigious sailing race. As the host country, the U.S. closed the opening ceremonies with an all American salute by Recycled Percussion. The America’s Cup organization sought an American rock band that exhibited high energy and wide audience appeal and amped up junk rockers Recycled Percussion fit the bill perfectly.

The group’s exciting and high-energy show at The Quad features music made on buckets, ladders, power tools, everything and the kitchen sink! For this special Fourth of July America’s Cup appearance, the group created a custom performance designed around popular American melodies that concluded with their famous ladder act.  The performance was paired with an American video montage featuring people and locations from across the country, including the well-known ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign.

Justin Spencer of Recycled Percussion said, “We are humbled to be representing this great country in this amazing event. They could choose any act and they chose us, so it’s a big honor.”

Audiences can now enjoy Recycled Percussion at The Quad Resort and Casino. Their brand new interactive show gives every audience member a chance to get in on the act with their own drumsticks and unique instruments. For tickets, please call The Quad Box Office at 855-234-7469 or 702-777-2782.
