Red Rock Resort Hosts $30 Friday Night Concert Series

Red Rock Resort heats up the summer months even more beginning in mid-May with its new Friday night outdoor concert series – Red Rock ‘n’ Roll. Concerts at the Sandbar outdoor poolside venue at 9 p.m.

From today’s hottest acts to those of the ’80s and ’90s, this concert series is set to offer a fun and inexpensive night out once the sun has gone down. The party starts every Friday with doors opening at 7 p.m. and National DJ Champion, DJ AL3 spinning tunes to get folks good and ready for the headliner to come. Tickets for all shows are $30 plus tax and applicable fees and all shows are open to those 18 years or older.

From May through September, guests can make Red Rock ‘n’ Roll a part of their weekend plans.

Friday:

May 13 – Sean Kingston – R&B / Hip Hop

• Born in the U.S. but raised in Jamaica gives Sean Kingston the background for his mix of hip hop and dancehall reggae. Kingston’s second single, “Beautiful Girls,” soared through the charts to No. 1 at only 16 years old. He’s also had Top 10 hits with the songs “Take You There” and “Fire Burning.”

May 20 – Echo & The Bunnymen – Alternative Rock

• British post-punk legends Echo & The Bunnymen have numerous hit songs to their name, including “Lips Like Sugar,” “The Killing Moon” and the single “Bring on the Dancing Horses” from the soundtrack for the feature film “Pretty In Pink.”

May 27 – Barenaked Ladies – Alternative Rock

• The Barenaked Ladies had risen in popularity and throughout the music charts in Canada before making the move to the U.S. Once they did, the band soared up the mainstream charts with several Top 5 hits, including “It’s All Been Done,” “One Week” and “Pinch Me,” among others.

June 3 – Goo Goo Dolls – Alternative Rock

• The Goo Goo Dolls released several albums before becoming a well-known name, but once they did, they blew up. Songs like “Name,” “Slide,” “Better Days” and “Give A Little Bit” all were Top 5 hits and “Iris” and “Black Balloon” received Grammy nominations.

June 10 – O.A.R. – Jam Rock / Reggae

• The band O.A.R., short for Of A Revolution, got their start as classmates at Ohio State University in the late ’90s. It didn’t take long before they were headlining gigs and made a national name for themselves on the jam band and mainstream circuit. Songs like “That Was a Crazy Game of Poker,” “Love and Memories,” “Heard the World” and “Shattered” have provided the band with a consistent fan base throughout today.

June 17 – Steel Pulse – Reggae

• British reggae band Steel Pulse incorporates the best of roots rock reggae while fusing it with elements of Latin and jazz music. Throughout its career, the band has received multiple Grammy nominations for albums like Victims, that featured the single “Taxi Driver,” as well as Rastafari Centennial and Rage and Fury. They also won a Grammy for the album Babylon the Bandit that features the song “Not King James Version.”

June 24 – Gavin DeGraw – Rock / Pop

• Singer songwriter Gavin DeGraw got what seemed slow, but was a sure start in the music scene following the release of his debut album Chariot in 2003. He gained a small following in New York the year it was released, but by 2004, DeGraw had a Top 10 hit with the single “I Don’t Want to Be” off the album. The album was then re-released as Chariot + Stripped where the original title track “Chariot” soared through the charts and the album earned double platinum certification. He continued to have hit songs, including “Follow Through” and “In Love with a Girl.”

July 8 – Puddle of Mudd – Alternative Rock

• The alt-metal quartet Puddle of Mudd has several hit songs to its name, including “Blurry,” “Drift & Die,” “She Hates Me” and “Away From Me,” among others. The band has continuously released albums, with the most recent Icon: The Best of Puddle of Mudd in November 2010.

July 29 – Lifehouse – Alternative Rock

• Since hitting the music scene in 2000, Lifehouse has idealized the best in music – radio-ready songs with hard rocking live shows. Whether fans are tuning in or at a show, songs like “Hanging By a Moment,” “You and Me,” “Whatever It Takes” and “Halfway Gone” will have them rocking out.

August 5 – Weezer – Alternative Rock

• Weezer first hit the music scene in the mid-’90s and has been a driving force ever since. With initial singles like “Undone (The Sweater Song),” “Buddy Holly” and “Say it Ain’t So,” they became a household name. The band has gone on hiatus several times throughout the years for members to work on side projects. They joined forces once again and the 2005 song “Beverly Hills” off the album Make Believe received platinum status, keeping Weezer that household name.

August 12 – Gipsy Kings – Rumba / Flamenco

• The Gipsy Kings are two groups of brothers who were all cousins that formed in the ’70s in Southern France and toured the country for years like gypsies, eventually taking on the name the Gipsy Kings. After gaining success throughout France and Europe in the ’80s, the band tackled the U.S. where they became one of the first Spanish bands to succeed on the charts, with songs like “Bamboleo” and “Djobi Djoba.” The band has continuously released albums and stayed in the mainstream music scene.

September 16 – Tears for Fears – Pop Rock

• Artists Ronald Orzabal and Curt Smith make up the English-born pop/rock duo Tears for Fears. The band’s debut album The Hurting was released in 1983 to much acclaim throughout the UK. It was followed shortly thereafter by Songs from the Big Chair that made a name for them in the U.S. and featured two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “Shout.” Tears for Fears released its third album in 1989, The Seeds of Love, which featured the modern rock hit “Sowing the Seeds of Love” and “Woman in Chains” featuring singer Oleta Adams.

All concerts are at 9 p.m. and are at the Sandbar outdoor poolside venue at Red Rock Resort located at 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. Las Vegas, Nev. Tickets are on sale now and are only $30 plus tax and applicable fees for general admission. Seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis and there is plenty of standing room and grass to enjoy. All guests must be 18 years or older.
