Reggae Musicians SOJA to Perform at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip May 12

SOJA brings their Everything Changes tour to Hard Rock Cafe on the Las Vegas Strip with opening act J Boog on Thursday, May 12.

One of the hardest working reggae bands out there, SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army) are eternally touring the world, and when they’re not touring, they’re in the studio recording. Hailing from Washington, DC this five-some are childhood friends. Lead singer Jacob Hemphill and bassist Bob Jefferson met in first grade and were best friends ever since. Throughout middle and high school, they met keyboardist Patrick O’Shea, drummer Ryan Berty and percussionist Ken Brownell – who would later form SOJA.

The band’s first release self-titled EP was independently released in 2000. Two years later the band released their first full length debut Peace in a Time of War which gained them notoriety and cemented them in the reggae world, resulting in larger tours and a rapidly expanding fan base. In 2006, they released Get Wiser, their second full length album and a breakthrough for the band. They combined conscious lyrics with beautiful, longing melodies and hard drum and bass. The Stars and Stripes EP, released in 2007, blended new sounds and rhythms, further progressing their sound. The following year they released Syr Mahber, a compilation disc produced by SOJA featuring various reggae artists hand-picked by the band to form a musical family tree with roots, infusing sounds from Ethiopia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Washington DC, St Croix and Brooklyn, NY. Wasting no time, in 2009 they released Born in Babylon, their third full length release which featured the addition of a new horn section with Hellman Escorcia on saxophone and Rafael Rodriguez on trumpet, adding more depth and appeal to their music. Everything Changes, the simple yet intense EP released in December of 2010 has a great message that makes you think of your life and what you’re really doing with it. With truly conscious lyrics and an infectious sound, these friends are creating a unique music with a meaningful and inspiring message.
