Rio Spa & Salon to Host 2nd Annual Locks of Love Donation Drive Aug. 17

The charity event will be held in honor of Rylie Cruz, the granddaughter of a long-time Rio employee who lost her battle with cancer last month.
Generous patrons that choose to donate at least 10-inches of hair will receive a complimentary blunt cut and 30-percent discount on any additional styling or coloring treatments at the salon. Guidelines allow permed or color-treated hair; however bleached and highlighted tresses are not usable. Donors may also bring in ponytails that have been previously cut at other locations. Hair donated to Locks of Love is turned into wigs and hairpieces for children undergoing chemotherapy, suffering from alopecia areata or recuperating from scalp burns.
“Hair donation is a simple way to make a difference in the eyes of children who have lost their hair,” said Sparkle Drebert, salon manager. “Last year’s Cut-A-Thon raised more than 70 ponytails, including a generous donation by Strip headliner Penn Jillette, and this year we hope to collect more than 100 ponytails.”
