Seven-Time Grammy Nominated Composer and Pianist Omar Sosa Quarteto AfroCubano to Perform at The Smith Center in Las Vegas Oct. 13–14, 2017
Seven-time GRAMMY nominated composer and pianist Omar Sosa has forged a distinctive musical path, fusing an array of jazz, world music, hip-hop and electronic elements with his AfroCuban roots – all with a Latin Jazz heart. Sosa will make his Las Vegas debut at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts with his Quarteto AfroCubano on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. with an additional performance on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

The two-night engagement will be held in continued support of his recent album, ILE, featuring Cuban drummer Ernesto Simpson, Cuban saxophonist Leandro Saint-Hill, and Mozambican electric bassist Childo Tomas. ILE, meaning “home” or “earth” in the Yoruba language of West Africa, ties in with the Latin Jazz roots of Sosa’s native Cuba that he returns to for inspiration on this project. The new album offers contemporary interpretations of some of the classic Cuban musical styles the world has come to admire.

Sosa’s presentation in Las Vegas will include a mix of ballads and sophisticated mid- and up-tempo arrangements, featuring a number of his signature compositions, including My Three Notes. Throughout the show, Sosa will showcase his inimitable mix of Fender Rhodes electric piano and acoustic grand piano.
