Surf Guitar Legend Dick Dale to Perform at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip April 22

The “King of the Surf Guitar”, Dick Dale, comes to the Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip with special guests.

American surf rock guitarist Dick Dale invented surf music in the 1950’s and was given the title “King of the Surf Guitar” by his fellow surfers with whom he surfed with from sun-up to sun-down. Dale moved to Orange County, CA at the age of 17 and immediately learned to surf and quickly became interested in music, learning to play drums, ukulele, trumpet and finally the guitar. Dale met famed guitar and amp guru, Leo Fender, and was asked to play his new creation, the Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar. Being a lefty, he held and played the guitar upside down and backwards creating a sound never heard before. The two developed a mutually beneficial relationship and Fender supplied Dale with amps and guitars and together they created a special amp and speaker system which allowed Dale to break through the electronic sound limitations of that era. This is when Dale was named the “Father of Heavy Metal” as quoted from Guitar Player Magazine.

Unique and versatile self taught musician, Dale, is also a master at the Acoustic, Electronic, Bass and Spanish Guitars and a myriad of other instruments as well. Easily one of the hardest working men in show business, Dale still continues to consistently tour and make public appearances throughout the world. In 2007 he was presented the 3rd only personalized medallion in 40 Years from Guitar Player Magazine as “Guitar Legend.” Dick Dale was the first person to take a sport and develop a music for it, creating his trademark surf music sound.
