The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Announces April Entertainment Performances

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas continues its line-up of touring artists at its casino floor hot-spots Book & Stage, Bond and The Chandelier with artist residencies through April. All performances are open to the public.

Book & Stage

A polished, masculine and comfortable setting, Book & Stage is a daytime live sports viewing lounge and by evening becomes a music performance-centric venue with popular acts.

The following acts will be playing at Book & Stage:

Tennis

Tennis, consisting of guitarist Patrick Riley and vocalist Alaina Moore, met while studying philosophy in college. Motivated by stories shared by sailors, the two sold their collective possessions, bought an old sailboat and embarked on a 7-month journey along the Eastern seaboard. Upon their return, and in search of an outlet to catalog their experience, the couple began writing and performing music together.

Friday, April 1 – Saturday, April 2 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

The Knocks

Based out of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Knocks are emerging as a force to be reckoned with as far as music production is concerned. Consisting of Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson, the Knocks are named in reference to the early days of their production career when they worked out of their home studios and their complaining neighbors would pound on the walls and ceilings. Years later, they have upgraded to the HeavyRoc Music Studio in Chinatown and are making names for themselves finding and developing talent as well as remixing the likes of other artists and bands.

Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding is a complicated thing in a seemingly simple package. On first hearing, she’s a bright and shiny 22-year-old singer-songwriter, with her fingers on her guitar, her feet in a nightclub and her head in the heavens. But very few singer-songwriters, young or old, can flip between dance-til-you-drop euphoria and wistful, journeying space-folk, between lyrics that talk obliquely about sleeping around and those that pin-point the love-hate relationship every leaver has about their home town. Very few can do all that and leave us with enchantment, curious romance and, somehow, a sense of vastness, of travel, of space and time. It’s pop, but not as we know it.

Marina & The Diamonds

Marina (And The Diamonds) Diamandis is the complete songwriter/performer. 50% Greek, 50%Welsh, 100% frolicking fairytale creature. A girl with virtually no musical schooling, for whom heart scorching choruses miraculously seem to appear at the tips of her fingers with each preposterous limb fling. A voice that both lures sailors to shores and wards ships from rocks. A mind that hacks apart the fabric of Now and serves it up in an ice-cream sundae for all to guzzle down. A performer whose onstage movement has been reminding lackluster gig-goers across the land the true meaning of ‘show time’.

Gamble House

“Gamble House embroiders, but seldom clutters, unpretentious tunes and understated vocals with woozy harmonies, organic dynamics and knits of acoustic, oft-arcane instrumentation (including banjo and glockenspiel). It’s ethereal, lip-chewing stuff all right, but they allow themselves a carnivalesque, slightly celebratory side evoking some prancing Wicker Man-y procession – full of color and culture, yet knowing way too much to be truly happy,” says from LA Weekly’s Paul Rogers.

Chairlift

Chairlift, a multi-instrumental trio operating out of Brooklyn, New York, play hypnotic, atmospheric pop music, combining colorful melodies with spare and sophisticated arrangements, a global, post-scarcity worldview, and an avant-garde sensibility embracing the future.

Wednesday, April 13 – Saturday, April 16 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

Lady Dottie and the Diamonds

An Alabama-bred fireball, Lady Dottie is a soulful woman in her early 60s named Dorothy Mae Whitsett. Singing everywhere from the kitchen to the pulpit, she’s curvier than Lombard and got more gumption than a pack of wolves. She’s a tambourine-toting, hip gyrating powerhouse with a sultry voice that will leave you trembling.

Sunday, April 17 – Tuesday, April 19 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

Kisses

So what’s in a kiss? For Jesse Kivel (one half of the band along with keys and backing vocalist Zinzi Edmundson), it can mean everything, even if only for a second. “I want to write songs that takes people out of their everyday lives” he says from Kisses LA HQ (let’s imagine he’s poolside, sipping a margarita).

“Great pop music is about escape. Kisses is about entering into another world.”

Jared Lee

Recently signed to a worldwide publishing deal with Chrysalis Music, Jared Lee just wrapped production on his debut album with producer Mike K (Nelly Furtado, Natasha Bedingfield). Armed with a stack of r&b infused pop-rock songs, Jared’s music is full of radio-ready anthemic choruses, soaring guitars, powerful drums, and highlighted with soulful vocals that cut right to the core.

Wednesday, April 27 – Friday, April 29 from 10:00PM – 11:00PM and 12:00AM – 1:00AM

100 Monkeys

From of the City of Angels comes 100 Monkeys, a band described by SPIN.com as “funk rock” and by RollingStone.com as “tribal sounds with vocals recalling Jim Morrison’s baritone croon.” Beyond Race Magazine says they are “sing-along-worthy, sometimes bluesy” and MTV.com describes them as a mix of “Iggy Pop with the Raconteurs.” 100 Monkeys, however, jest that their music is purely “onomatopoetic, but for the sake of simplicity, we’ll call it funky rock-n-roll.”

Bond

Bond, a rhythmic and vibrant hot-spot, features a mash-up of dynamic LED art, live performances & upbeat house music in an energetic ultra lounge setting.

Lance Herbstrong

Through stream-of-consciousness aural atmospherics, Lance Herbstrong takes you on a trip, sustaining musical momentum with sonic layers propelling the rhythms. The result is music that is ethereal and organic, of the air and of the earth, and always moving. Creating dubby landscapes isn’t without cost, as the band is quick to point out, “Many plants have been sacrificed in the making of this music.”

DJ Fresh One

Fresh One is easily one of San Diego’s most recognized and sought after DJs. He’s been in the game for nearly a decade and has built a solid reputation for an amazing work ethic and originality. In addition, his original beats and remixes have been used by countless others and his skills behind the decks are impressive.

DJ Cosmo Baker

Cosmo Baker is widely considered as one of the top party-rocking DJs on the planet. A master of everything from hip-hop to disco & funk to electronic music, his unique style and spinning prowess is able to bring it all together in a cohesive, and funky manner.

DJ Mel

DJ Mel’s renowned party-rocking sets are as musically broad as they are technically skilled, and this deep selection and unique touch behind the decks has made Mel a true “DJ’s DJ” and an Austin institution for almost two decades.

DJ Eleven

Originally hailing from Oakland, CA, DJ Eleven is one of the founders of infamous Brooklyn-based DJ crew The Rub, which was named the “Best DJ Collective in New York” by Spin Magazine. Along with The Rub, Eleven was nominated as America’s Best DJ by DJ Times’ in 2010. In addition to traveling the world playing gigs in clubs from Moscow to Buenos Aires, Eleven has toured extensively and regularly DJs private parties, with a long list of high profile clients like Scarlett Johansen, Playboy, Scion, and GQ.

DJ ZO

DJ ZO got his start spinning freestyle sessions for his friends after school in Las Vegas. In 2008, ZO would spin underground hip-hop for The Marty McFly Radio Show. He also had guest sets on Pushing The Boundaries Show at night. Now, you’d be hard pressed to find both hip-hop and electro mixtapes circulating around The Valley without this Vegas staple’s stamp on it.

Monday, April 18 – Tuesday, April 19 from 10:00PM – 2:00AM

DJ Who

Mixing Electronic, Rock and Hip Hop beats, DJ Who brings something different to clubs up and down the West Coast. Who gives party-goers a break from the usual Top 40 tracks and draws his inspiration from the music of his past: Hip Hop and Rock and Roll.

Beatnick

Beatnick’s love affair with music began at a young age with the heavy rotation of his parents’ disco records (breaking their record player) and staying up late on weekends to listen in on DJ mix shows in grade school. His style exudes all forms of soul music. A musical buffet of Hip-Hip, Reggae, House & Soul make up his distinct sound.

Sunday, April 24 – Wednesday, April 27 from 10:00PM – 2:00AM

Chris Cutz

Chris Cutz is a musical force to be recognized and reckoned with. When he’s on the clock his sets flow effortlessly between hip-hop, funk, soul, house and electro and the dance floor is packed until the house lights switch on. His ingenious mixes, uncanny knack of choosing the right song at the right time and mind-boggling turntablist skills are what sets him above other DJs.

The Chandelier

A living breathing three level architectural wonder created by 2,000,000 luminous beaded curtains of light, this multi-story visual spectacle houses three unique bar experiences: high-energy hot spot, sophisticated cocktail retreat and inviting lounge.

Jubilee

Jubilee is known as Brooklyn’s bass sweetheart, the DJ whose rambunctious combination of bass-heavy electro, upfront house, UK Funky, and tropical flavor has become a surefire remedy for ailing dance floors around the globe.

Jenny & Johnny

Jenny and Johnny = Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice. Jenny and Johnny first started working together in Los Angeles in 2005. They both ended up playing on each other’s recordings, and struck up a lasting creative relationship. The overall result of their new album is genuine and original pop music for Right Now. This is Jenny and Johnny. They’re having fun now, and they want you to, too.
