Mickey Hart is best known for his nearly three decades of percussion contribution to the soulful and spiritual music of the Grateful Dead. As half of the Dead’s percussion team known as the “Rhythm Devils,” the twosome always sought to explore percussion instruments from all over the world, which ignited Hart’s desire to learn more about various cultures and the exotic music from them.

Host of The Lyons Den radio show on KUNV, George Lyons and I sat down with Mickey for an interview before the show. The three of us spoke about his current tour, the new album coming out in April and his various projects involving using music as medicine and his upcoming gathering to break the guinness world record for largest drum circle. Mickey also told us he was going to see “his baby” after our interview… speaking of the Mirage Volcano which features music composed by Mickey Hart. He told us he wanted to take his band over to check on the volcano.
