The Vegas Rocks! Magazine Music Awards Rock The Joint!
The 3rd Annual Vegas Rocks! Magazine Music Awards took place Sunday, August 26, and this year was the most spectacular by far. Our thanks to Betty Fitzgerald for this report (Pictured above: Sammy Hagar – Photo credit: Tom Donoghue/ Donoghuephotography.com).
Vegas Rocks! Magazine Publisher Sally Steele single-handedly put in motion an amazing show to celebrate the magazine’s 8th year Anniversary. The Rock n’ Roll Royal Red Carpet saw hundreds of entertainers which included some of the biggest names in the music world. Rock Royalty filled the stage from start to finish starting with the band DEAD SARA opening the show with a fury taking “Best New Rock Band” Award, followed by Levi Benton of MISS MAY I, taking “Male Metal Star of Tomorrow” and a surprise appearance by DJ Ashba from GUNS N’ ROSES accepting the “Guitar Hero 2012” Award.

Vinnie Paul from PANTERA was ecstatic to be presented the “Drum Legend Icon” Award by rock hero and close friend Zakk Wylde. Michael Schenker flew across the ocean from Europe just for the night to accept “Rock Guitar Legend” award with the voice that put QUEENSRYCHE on the map Geoff Tate taking the stage immediately afterwards for “The Voice of Progressive Metal” award.

With the show never losing steam with many of the best rock artists in Las Vegas accepting their awards, it was soon time for more excitement as David Coverdale accepted the “Lifetime Achievement In Rock n’ Roll” award presented to him by Kip Winger as David took center stage for a surprise performance of “Slide It In” with his WHITESNAKE band mate Doug Aldrich on acoustic guitar.

The featured star of the night, Sammy Hagar then took to the podium to accept his prestigious “Voice Of Rock” Award presented to him by Eddie Trunk. Then the action unfolded with a tribute to Ronnie Montrose with Sammy performing “Rock Candy” with Michael Schenker, Michael Anthony (Van Halen) and Vinnie Paul on drums. Then most all of the performers from the show took the stage to join them which also included John 5, Kip Winger, Geoff Tate, Blas Elias (Slaughter), Z Maddox, Dario Lorina, The Sin City Sinners, and many others to perform “There’s Only One Way to Rock” with Sammy Hagar leading the way for one of the most spectacular All Star Performances in Rock n’ Roll history!
I can’t wait for next year’s Vegas Rocks! Magazine Awards to see how this could possibly be topped! — Betty Fitzgerald
