The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas Ring in the “Year of the Rooster” with a Ceremonial Lion Dance
The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas ushered in the Year of the Rooster on Saturday, Jan. 28, with a traditional lion dance and eye ceremony. On hand to welcome Chinese New Year 2017 were:
- Mr. Sheldon Adelson, chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp.
- Dr. Miriam Adelson
- Robert Goldstein, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp.
- George Markantonis, president and chief operating officer of The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands Expo
- Larry Chiu, president of international marketing
- Pete Boyd, senior vice president of operations
- Robert Cinelli, senior vice president of casino operations

The celebration began with the special painting of the eye ceremony at The Venetian porte-cochere to provide good luck to all for 2017, accompanied by firecrackers to ward off evil spirits and encourage a successful year ahead.
Chinese New Year celebration at The Venetian and The Palazzo
Dancers and drummers paraded through both properties, circled through The Venetian lobby and casino before stopping in The Palazzo Waterfall Atrium, then finding its way through The Palazzo casino.

To accompany the ceremony and dance, guests were invited to enjoy the stunning decorations highlighting the “Year of the Rooster” that are spread throughout the resort. To honor the “Year of the Rooster” the resort’s floral and horticulture department created a massive Chinese New Year installation. The dazzling art display captured the eyes of each and every guest who ventured through The Waterfall Atrium and Gardens.

The “Year of the Rooster” art installation features:
- A 15-foot tall, 3,500-pound fire rooster crafted of steel and resin. The hand-painted rooster is covered with approximately 68,000 crystals.
- 8 smaller roosters throughout the resort, each hand-carved and painted by a team of six artists.
- An 18-foot long dragon inside the infinity pond in the middle of the Waterfall Atrium.
The Year of the Rooster art installation will run through Feb. 20.
