8 News NOW Raises $3,700 to Support United Way of Southern Nevada Through Facebook Challenge

8 News NOW raised more than $3,700 through its Facebook challenge to support United Way of Southern Nevada’s 2011 fundraising goal of $12.4 million.

Between September and October, 8 News NOW set out to help United Way advance its mission of engaging the community and focus resources to make lasting changes to improve lives through the Facebook challenge. For every new “like” the 8 News NOW Facebook page garnered, the station donated $1 to United Way up to a maximum of $10,000. 8 News NOW started with 781 Facebook fans and through the partnership with United Way and the support of local Nevadans, the station accumulated 3,720 new fans during the challenge.

“The partnership encouraged southern Nevadans to become involved in their community through a fun and interactive social media campaign,” said United Way 2011 Campaign Chair Emily T. Neilson, president and general manager of 8 News NOW. “Funds raised through the Facebook challenge will help United Way expand its capacity to create viable solutions that provide long-term, positive change within the community.”
