A Vigil for Peace and Unity at First AME Church in Las Vegas Aug. 20
A vigil for peace and unity and for Las Vegans to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in denouncing anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First AME Church, 2446 Revere St., North Las Vegas.

The vigil is being sponsored by a host of community and faith organizations, including the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, the Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada, the Jewish Federation and multiple religious faith groups, and is being supported by a growing number of elected officials at all levels of government.

“Now is the time for strong leaders from every demographic and faith community across the nation to stand up with a resounding and unified voice against the real axis of evil,” said the Rev Ralph Williamson, pastor of the First AME Church. “White supremacy, hatred, racism and fascism have no place in the United States of America.”

Attendees are asked to not carry posters or signs, but rather “to come with open hands and hearts.”
