Bald Heads to Shine in Battle Against Childhood Cancer March 7

People will shave their heads in a symbolic move to raise money to help conquer childhood cancer at the third annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation community fundraiser.

Green Valley Ranch (GVR) will present every person who shaves their head for the St. Baldrick’s charity a gift bag with spa products, draft beer for one dollar during the event, GVR coupons and a St. Baldrick’s t-shirt.

The entire community is invited to attend, donate and/or shave their heads. Helping to make a statement and raise funds to combat childhood cancer by shaving their heads are Green Valley Ranch General Manager Tim Wright, Assistant General Manager Claes Landberg and Sunset Station Assistant General Manager Ken Rubeli, among several other hotel executives.

WHEN:
Saturday, March 7, 2009
5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

WHERE:
Quinn’s Irish Pub inside Green Valley Ranch

McMullan’s Irish Pub at Tropicana Avenue and Cameron Street will also host St. Baldrick’s from 2 p.m. until 3 a.m.

Over the last two years, McMullan’s raised $350,000 where to date 383 people – men, women and children – had their heads shaved to bond with stricken youngsters who had lost their hair to chemotherapy. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, based in Pasadena, Calif., was founded less than a decade ago by 17 people who wanted to do more to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than just sit around and drink Irish beer. One of them offered children cancer research as a fundraising recipient and the participants had a goal of raising $1,000 each. After raising more than 10 times that amount, the annual event mushroomed and is now held in pubs, firehouses, restaurants, meeting halls, high school gyms and other venues in 18 countries and 48 US states, where more than 72,000 shaved heads attest to the volunteers’ fund-raising efforts all over the world..
