Bank of America Charitable Foundation Awards $192,000 in Grants to 15 Nonprofits Focused on Workforce Development and Education in Las Vegas
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation today announced $192,000 in grants to 15 nonprofits dedicated to providing workforce development and education opportunities in Las Vegas (Pictured: St. Judes).

These grants represent Bank of America’s focus on advancing employment opportunities and preparing the underemployed as well as the next generation of workers with the skills needed for careers in Nevada’s evolving workforce.
Communities in Schools of Nevada
Despite recent improvements in Nevada’s unemployment rate, the state’s jobless rate of 5.8 percent still remains more than double the national average of 2 percent, according to data from the state Employment, Training and Rehabilitation Department.

The nonprofits selected to receive grants play a critical role in connecting low-income individuals and families to financial education, job training, workforce development and/or mentoring at their point of need.

“Connecting Southern Nevadans with the resources needed to obtain jobs and support their families plays a critical role in helping our community’s economy thrive,” said Al Welch, Nevada President Bank of America. “We share these nonprofits’ vision to help people obtain the skills necessary to lead financially stable and independent lives.”
First Nevada
The organizations receiving funding and the respective, local impact of their grants include:
- Teach for America, to support more than 30,000 low-income students in high-need schools across the Las Vegas Valley
- Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, to support programs educating approximately 400 students about financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurial skills
- International Association of Working Mothers, to provide 8,000 hours of financial mentoring to 1,200 Nevada residents
- St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Nevada Region, to provide important resources for 70 homeless youth ages 18 to 25 and their children
- Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas, to support its initiative to pay one college application fee for up to 370 local high school seniors
- Opportunity Village, to support food skills training for Southern Nevada residents with intellectual disabilities that will lead to community employment

“Through the generosity of Bank of America, southern Nevadans will be provided with the tools needed to lift themselves off of the unending cycle of unemployment and dependency and into our workforce,” said Janet Blumen, CEO and Founder of Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow, whose Bank of America grant will provide job training, coaching and support for 300-plus Southern Nevadans.

In 2015, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation gave more than $2 million back to the Southern Nevada community in the form of grants and partnerships. Additionally, local employees volunteered more than 10,000 hours in Southern Nevada.
