Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada Honors Local Heroes and Childhood Cancer Survivors at Annual Evening of Hope Gala
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada
held its annual Ray of Hope Honoree Luncheon and Evening of Hope Gala Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9. The events raised more than $250,000 to support local families battling pediatric cancer through financial assistance, emotional support and quality of life services.

Candlelighters is southern Nevada’s first and oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting local pediatric cancer patients.

“It is our dream that, one day, there will no longer be a need for our services in the community,” said Avi Dan-Goor, Candlelighters Board Member and Evening of Hope Chairman. “We look forward to a time when no one in our community faces the devastation of childhood cancer; however, until that day arrives, Candlelighters will be here to support our families in their fight. And, we are so grateful to those in the community who join us in this effort by giving back and supporting events like Evening of Hope so we can support these courageous children in their journeys.”

The Ray of Hope Honoree Luncheon provided the opportunity to recognize Candlelighters’ children as well as those who have offered their time, talent and treasure to support the organization. Childhood cancer survivors and Ray of Hope honorees for 2019 include: Iyanna, J’Vionn, Jordan and Mia. Glen Lerner of Glen Lerner Injury Attorneys received the Philanthropist of the Year award; Dr. Alan Ikeda, Chief Medical Officer of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation was recognized as the 2019 Candlelighters Medical Hero; and Karen Dorsey, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Ellis Island Casino was named Volunteer of the Year.

Hosted by celebrity emcee Jaymes Vaughan, of Celebrity Page TV and Amazing Race fame, the Evening of Hope Gala featured a culinary experience highlighting decadent bites and craft cocktails created by local culinary artists, a children’s art gallery, a live and silent auction and live entertainment provided by up-and-coming country sensation John King.

Proceeds from both events benefit Candlelighters quality of life, emotional support and financial assistance programs. Event sponsors included presenting sponsor The Revolution, Centennial Toyota and Comprehensive Cancer Centers.

The annual Evening of Hope Gala and Ray of Hope Honoree Luncheon are just two examples of the many events Candlelighters hosts throughout the year. With the aim of increasing both awareness for the organization’s cause as well as funds to support families in their fight against pediatric cancer, there are many ways to support Candlelighters’ mission. Annual events include the popular Superhero 5K, Camp Independent Firefly and the annual ShineGOLD for Cancer campaign in September. For more information visit candlelightersnv.org.
