Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada to Celebrate World Refugee Day with Food and Fun at Cultural Enrichment Fair
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) and nearly 30 community partners will host a Cultural Enrichment Fair to commemorate World Refugee Day Friday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Las Vegas’ Bevan Hall  (3050 Alta Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89107).

World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to honor those who were forced to leave their homes under threat of persecution, conflict or violence.

The Cultural Enrichment Fair will celebrate the more than 1,000 refugees from around the globe who resettle in Southern Nevada each year. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the refugee experiences and get an authentic taste of Filipino, El Salvadorian, Ethiopian, and Mediterranean cuisine and culture.

“This fair was created to emphasize why refugee resettlement is such a vital humanitarian effort,” said Deacon Tom Roberts, President and CEO of Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. “We look forward to celebrating the many countries and cultures that comprise our community’s refugee population.”

Milan Devetak, former refugee and Director of Resettlement at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, will be the master of ceremonies for the event.

“We help new arrivals assimilate to the Las Vegas community with cultural orientation, securing housing and other basic needs such as food, clothing, English classes and job placement,” says Devetak. “The ultimate goal is to help each refugee attain self-sufficiency as soon as possible.”

The Cultural Enrichment Fair is free and open to the public. Please visit www.catholiccharities.com to learn more.
