Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada to Continue Thanksgiving Dinner Tradition
Thanksgiving traditions start in the kitchen. Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada will serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to homeless and vulnerable men, women and children on Thanksgiving Day. Approximately 1,500 meals will be served.
The Thanksgiving meal is made possible thanks to community donations and dedicated volunteers. The Catholic Charities St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility has been serving meals to community members in need since 1965.
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada to Continue Thanksgiving Dinner Tradition
The doors are open to anyone who needs a meal. Catholic Charities Executive Chef Juan Penate and his staff of 20 arrive at 2 a.m. to begin preparing:
- 1,960 pounds of oven-roasted turkey
- 40 gallons of turkey gravy
- 650 pounds of Yukon mashed potatoes
- 650 pounds of succotash
- 375 pounds of bread stuffing with chestnuts
- 25 gallons of cranberry sauce with orange zest
- 2,000 homemade biscuits
- 2,000 individual pumpkin cheesecakes and 8 gallons of whipped cream
- 1,500 pints of juice

The kitchen crew will begin preparing the meal from 2:00 a.m. until serving time. Media is welcome at 5:00 a.m. for morning live shots and back to capture meal serving at 9:45 a.m.WHERE:
