City of Henderson Funds Tutoring App for 10 Schools
The City of Henderson will provide $94,080 to fund the use of CircleIn, a peer-to-peer tutoring application, at 10 public schools during the upcoming academic year as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to education and application of ‘smart city’ initiatives.
“Henderson residents recognize the importance of providing our students with a quality education and they strongly support the City’s efforts to improve the learning environment in our local schools,” said Mayor Debra March. “Our investment in this innovative tutoring app will give 10 Henderson schools access to a digital tool that students can use to improve their study habits, increase their academic performance and close existing learning gaps.”

Henderson-based CircleIn is an online community where students help students through the use of a smartphone app. Students can ask for help with their homework in real time from their classmates, upload and share their notes, work on group projects and participate in group study sessions through the CircleIn app. CircleIn uses rewards to encourage high-performing students to volunteer as tutors and collect points toward scholarships and gift cards and also earn community service hours for college applications.
“Henderson’s Smart City Strategy prioritized a tutoring app as a way to empower students to improve their own performance by helping them connect with a network of high achievers,” said Chief Information Officer Laura Fucci. “CircleIn provides students a safe and intuitive learning environment that can be personalized to their academic needs.”
Henderson’s Smart City Strategy was adopted in March 2018 through input gathered from internal and external stakeholders, review of up-and-coming technologies and alignment with the Henderson Strong Comprehensive Plan. The strategy identifies technology initiatives in four focus areas: citizen services, public safety, education and transportation.
The 10 Henderson public schools selected to participate in the program are Bob Miller Middle School, Coral Academy Sandy Ridge, Coronado High School, Greenspun Junior High School, Green Valley High School, Liberty High School, Thurman White Middle School, Pinecrest Cadence, Pinecrest Inspirada and Pinecrest St. Rose.
