City of Henderson Now Accepting Applications for Military Recognition Banner Program

The City of Henderson continues the tradition of honoring its hometown heroes with street banners bearing the name, rank and image of an active military servicemember with ties to the community.

Applications are now being accepted for the Military Recognition Banner Program, which honors the brave men and women currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The street banners will be displayed in the weeks leading up to Veterans Day. The application deadline is October 1.

“These banners are our way of honoring the men and women in military uniform who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our country,’’ said Mayor Andy Hafen. “We want the brave members of our community that are serving our country to know how proud we are of them and to show that we support their mission.”

Henderson residents, businesses and organizations may nominate an honoree and sponsor their street banner for a $150 banner printing cost. The honoree must be a Henderson resident or the immediate family member of a Henderson resident, and must be an active duty member of the military in good standing. There is a limit of one banner per servicemember.

The street banners will be installed prior to Veterans Day and are displayed for a year. Once the banners are removed following the display period, the servicemember will be recognized and presented with their banner by the City of Henderson.

Nomination forms are available from the Community Development and Services Department and can be requested by phone at 702-267-1533 or online at cityofhenderson.com.
