The WinterFest Evening Light Parade has become a much-loved tradition for residents to attend and participate in. As one of the best holiday processions in the valley, nearly 100 glimmering entries, which include floats, school bands, cheer teams and Santa Claus, march in the parade every year.

For this year’s parade, entries must be decked out in lights and reflect the theme of “Dazzling Desert Holidays.” Judges will score participants based on incorporation of theme, creativity and overall appeal. Cash prizes will be awarded to floats for first ($1,000), second ($750) and third place ($500), courtesy of several generous sponsors. Ribbons will be awarded to the best three entries in the remaining categories.

Ballots will be tallied and awards will be presented at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St., during the WinterFest celebration, which is scheduled for Dec. 8 and Dec. 9, and features a tree lighting ceremony, Christmas carolers, visits with Santa, craft and gift fair, toboggan slide, make-and-take crafts, Ferris wheel and carousel.

Those who are interested in participating in this year’s WinterFest Evening Light Parade may download the application online at cityofhenderson.com. Applications, with payment, are due no later than Nov. 27.
