Communities In Schools of Nevada Receives Grant from Nevada Women’s Philanthropy
Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS of Nevada) has been named the recipient of the Nevada Women’s Philanthropy (NWP) grant totaling $350,000.
The grant purchased 240 computers, which will help thousands of CIS Academy students at six local high schools, and was presented during a ceremony held at Cimarron-Memorial High School on Tuesday, March 24.
“Communities In Schools is very pleased to have been selected for the Nevada Women’s Philanthropy 2014 Impact Grant,” said Diane Fearon, chief executive officer of CIS of Nevada. “The grant will be invested in almost 16,000 low-income, high-risk students that CIS serves in Clark County School District. We truly appreciate the time and efforts of the Grant Committee during the selection process and are grateful for the high standards these philanthropists use as their guide for a thoughtful decision.”
CIS Academy assists high school students with credit retrieval, college preparation including applications, resumes and scholarships, as well as teaching valuable skills needed in the workforce. Each school received two storage and charging carts as well as 40 computers.
“NWP is thrilled to partner with Communities In Schools who will see that the 2014 grant will provide thousands of students with the tools they need to graduate from high school,” said NWP president Kelly Cavanagh. “We are confident that this investment will have a direct impact on the lives of thousands of students who will have access to these new computers.”
Local high schools receiving the computers include Canyon Springs, Chaparral, Cimarron-Memorial, Rancho, Sunrise Mountain and Valley.
