Exceptional Teens to Compete for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada 2017 “Youth Of The Year” Title
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada (BGCSNV) will host a competition on January 19, 2017 in which teen finalists strive to be named the local Youth of the Year and win a $1,000 scholarship.
The Youth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize teen members’ service to Boys & Girls Club, community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life. The teens will give speeches to tell about their successes as well as their personal challenges and obstacles overcome.
BGCSNV will be hosting the annual Youth of the Year breakfast at City Hall in the City Council Chambers, from 8:00am- 9:30am on Thursday January 19 for supporters that would like to hear the best and brightest teen finalists compete for the Youth of the Year title, and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of these Club members. The winner and recipient of the $1000 scholarship will be announced at the free breakfast.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The program empowers young people to reach their full potential and provides youth with access to the tools they need to build the great futures they imagine.
The newly named BGCSNV Youth of the Year will next compete against other Boys & Girls Clubs members across Nevada for the state title in Reno, and win an additional $1,000 college scholarship. State winners move on to vie for the distinction of one of five regional winners across the country, and ultimately those five winners will contend for the title of National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year receives a $15,000 scholarship and is installed by the President of the United States.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada is a nonprofit organization that operates 14 facilities and two summer outreach programs in Southern Nevada, and serves more than 22,000 youth in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Southern Highlands and Summerlin.
