“Flip Through Summer” Family Fun Summer Kickoff at Lorenzi Park
On Saturday, May 31, United Way of Southern Nevada, in partnership with the City of Las Vegas, celebrated “Flip Through Summer” at Lorenzi Park, an event that encouraged children to continue reading during the summer months.

City of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and United Way President and CEO Cass Palmer hosted the opening ceremony and welcomed nearly 400 people and children who pledged to read 3,285 books throughout the summer.

“This event brought to life the magic of reading and provided an opportunity for children to get excited about reading during the summer,” said Cass Palmer, United Way of Southern Nevada President and CEO. “We had many children who were inspired to make reading pledges that were displayed prominently and collectively creating a life-size book.”

The event encouraged summer reading, since children can lose as much as three months of reading comprehension during the summer. As part of the event, eight brand new bicycles were given away. Families also participated in our book swap where each individual could bring two books and swap them for two new books.
This event was sponsored by Caesars Entertainment, Nevada State Bank, Aristocrat Technologies, Caring Nurses, Southwest Gas Corporation and Young Philanthropists Society.
